PH domains are Crazy Expensive

Is it just me or does everyone else who wants a Philippines top level domain feel they are being ripped off?

The other night I was shopping around for a domain I could buy on the cheap for an upcoming event. It dawned on me that PH domains cost $35 a year, while .com domains cost $10 a year. I never knew the Philippines was in such great demand! Well, at least the domain seems to be in demand.

Why such high prices? Is it demand driven? Absolutely not. I teach Economics and I know for a fact that competition drives prices down. The reason PH domains remains high is that one company monopolizes the selling of the PH domain. Shouldn’t this be rectified?

I ended up getting www.LinuxCD.info for just $1.07/year.

Only in the Philippines! Hayyyy!
